“Cymbopogon Citratus” has natural strong and fresh lemon scent.

From the fresh or dried leaves, you can make a pleasant infusion, perfect as both a fresh or a hot drink.

It contains about 70% citral essential oil, which is also found in lemon and orange peel. This is mainly known and used to alleviate digestive problems, to calm the nervous system and it’s also used as an insect repellent. It also has analgesic, anti-depressant and anti-bacterial properties.

The fresh, fleshy stalks, cut into slices, pairs perfectly with seafood, fish, ginger and coconut.

In our farm, the bulbs are less fleshy, hence it is more common to use the leaves, which also add a delicious citrus flavor to cooking. It is used to flavor soups and sauces and adds a refreshing touch to chicken and other meat, fish or seafood dishes. It is also used in sweets, pairing very well with fruit, and its intense and fresh flavor is helpful for reducing the amount of sugar used in recipes. Discover some recipes in our Sal Verde Book!
